Navigating SCGH Hospital - Cancer Network
Freelance Animation - 2025
Navigating within a large major hospital can be very stressful, as these places are usually very daunting, and on top of that, you're expected to find a specific place on time when half of everything looks the same. Now, thanks to an implimented QR code, you can find your way starting at the chemist via a 1st person-view animation, navigate all the way to the CancerNetwork of WA.
Development
This project began its life as an extension onto the pilot project that consisted of largely creating the Watling Walk portion of the hospital. As you can see to the right, the top right image shows a small chunk of Watling, alongside a 3D mesh of what had been imported from Revit.
The next stage was to apply materials to all the surfaces, which was mostly just solid colours with some basic attributes such as shininess, though a few basic patterns had to be made if a given material had to be extra distinctive.
This had the intention of simplifying the overall level of details to make the visuals more "digestible" for the viewer.
It took a while to complete that, as its crucial to get it right so the overal vibe and feel is able to match the real-life counterpart. Next it was time to add in the 3DS Max lighting system so the interiors can start to come alive! More advanced 3D modelling /tweaks were also done in 3DS Max to add extra polish.
The various artworks hanging on the walls were both simplified & abstracted to ensure having good enough visual ques, whilst avoiding directly copying artist works.
